European Mobility Week

September 19, 2011

From 16 to 22 September 2011 the Mobility Week is the opportunity for European cities and towns to participate to the most widespread event on sustainable mobility.

The overall aim of the European Mobility Week campaign is to encourage public awareness of the need to act against pollution caused by the increase in motorised traffic in the urban environment.

Each European Mobility Week focuses on a particular topic relating to sustainable mobility, the so-called focal theme. In 2011 the theme is Alternative Mobility. In this year more than 2000 cities and towns from 41 countries are participating in the initiative.

For this year, Budapest is promoting the advantages, the benefits and the beauty of sustainable mobility, alternative transportation, reducing eco-footprint and improving life quality. (Detailed programme)

The closing event will be the European Car-free Day on September 22nd. On the same day a large scale Critical Mass ride will take place on Budapest’s Big Ring Road.
